Feeling Lucky: A Guide to Irish Pubs in Downtown Milwaukee

The luck of the Irish will be found all over southeastern Wisconsin this weekend.

From corned beef and cabbage to Irish coffee and the best Irish whiskey drinks in town, downtown Milwaukee is the place to be on St. Patrick’s Day.

Options abound, including many that are walkable from apartment communities like River House, where we are a stone’s throw from some of the best in the area. Each is a destination in its own rite, but they share one very important trait: they embrace Irish culture in all they do.

Here are a few of our local favorites:

Red Lion Pub, 1850 N. Water Street

Beer will be flowing, Jameson Irish coffee will be brewing and breakfast will be served bright and early at 6 a.m. at Red Lion Pub. The Jameson Patio Party will have full service at their outdoor patio bar, live entertainment and plenty of Jameson cocktails and mixers to go around.

Three Lions Pub,  4515 N. Oakland Ave.

Known for everything from a full English breakfast to their unbeatable Shepherd’s Pie & Fish ‘N Chips, Three Lions Pub is hosting a “Shorewood Shenanigans Block Party” in Kensington Square on St. Patrick’s Day.

The square in front of the pub will be closed to traffic as it transforms into a St. Patrick’s Day extravaganza featuring food, live music and events throughout the day.

Trinity Three Irish Pubs, 125 E. Juneau Ave.

The Harp Irish Pub, 113 E. Juneau Ave.

Downtown classic Trinity Three Irish Pubs is teaming up with The Harp Irish Pub to host three days of St. Patrick’s Day festivities. Also in celebration of the NCAA basketball tournament, the event is being hosted at Trinity and will feature green beer, live music, and DJs in a heated tent that connects the two pubs.

County Clare, 1234 N. Astor Street

Party for charity at County Clare Inn & Pub, where they will be offering a Full Irish Breakfast, holding a Blessing of the Shamrock and featuring celtic music and traditional Irish dancers throughout the day to benefit local charities.

Flannery’s, 425 E. Wells Street

Reuben rolls and sliders, Irish pork ribeye and traditional corned beef and cabbage are among the special menu items Flannery’s is offering through the end of March.

The beloved Milwaukee institution opens at 10 a.m. on St. Patrick’s Day, and is featuring a variety of specials throughout the day.

McGillicuddy’s, 1135 N. Water Street

Self-dubbed as “Water Street’s Biggest and Best St. Patrick’s Day Party,” McGillicuddy’s opens bright and early at 6 a.m. on their favorite day of the year. There will be specials and raffles throughout the day, in addition to Irish breakfast on the menu until 11 a.m.

The Pub Club, 1103 N. Old World Third Street

The Pub Club also opens at 6 a.m. and features various drink specials and breakfast goodies throughout the day. A fan favorite for its amazing Bloody Mary’s, The Pub Club offers a uniquely authentic Irish ambiance.
